Did you know that the former child actor Brett Kelly had to eat 30 bars of chocolates in just a night?
Who Is Brett Kelly Today?
Remember the chubby kid aka Thurman Merman in Terry Zwigoff's Christmas badass film, Bad Santa which was a box office success of more than $75 million? Thurman was portrayed by none other than the adorable actor, Brett Kelly.
The Vancouver-born actor is also best known for his roles in other notable films and tv series including The Sandlot 2, Trick r' Treat, Unaccompanied Minors, Out Cold, Cheats, High School, Like Mike 2: Streetball and the Bad Santa's continuation; Bad Santa 2, where Kelly was last seen in 2016.
The former child actor, moreover, is recognized for performing the characters of chubby kid aka Merman though. And, whilst a lot of overweight or big child actors in Hollywood including Harry Melling who underwent a drastic weight loss transformation to enhance their acting career, can the same be said about Kelly too?
Or is it exactly the opposite?
Kelly Gained Weight For Bad Santa 2
The former child actor, who keeps his personal life under the radar didn't follow any trend to flaunt or impress dramatic weight loss transformation. Brett, however, like fellow Hollywood icon Jonah Hills, actually gained weight when he reprised his role for Bad Santa 2.
The first time he appeared in the film in 2008, Kelly was only eight years old. And when he returned to the film's sequence in 2016, the actor was 23. And, in between the period, as puberty hit him, he grew up perfectly fine. He was neither too slim nor overweight.
Matter of fact, it was in 2016, when the Young Artist nominee had just completed his Bachelor exams, he received the call from the Bad Santa team. The alum of the University of British Columbia accepted the offer to do film alongside Billy Bob Thorton, of course.
But, the only least likable thing about the contract was that it implied he had to gain a heavyweight too.
Brett Put On 55 Pounds
The excitement is, however, seemingly real. Cause, not long after he was ready to prepare for his role, he already greeted more than 40 pounds in a couple of months. And, the diet to gain weight for Brett was no unique, he was allowed to eat anything he liked all the time, which he thoroughly followed.
As a matter of fact, Brett would eat anything he had on his hands and sight. And, in another two months, he was fifteen pounds heavier, gaining in a total of 55 pounds altogether in only four months.
This was, however, not the first time, Kelly had to experience something similar for a film as he previously had to eat 30 chocolate bars in a night for Trick 'r Treat, the movie that made him hate chocolates.
As easy peasy, it was to gain weight, the struggle only came when he had to get rid of them as soon as the filming was done. It, in fact, took him 8 months to farewell the weight. Thankfully, Bad Santa's producers helped him by offering a personal trainer.
