It is possible to leave the womb in its place but in some conditions, it should be removed using a surgical procedure called hysterectomy.

Radiotherapy is often used as an alternative to the surgical procedure. It is sometimes used parallel to surgery.

Advanced cases of cervical cancer are treated with the combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Prevention

1. Screening

Regular screening of cervix with Papanicolaou test or Par smear has been proved the most effective method to reduce the risk with a dramatic decrease of mortality cases. Hence, all women should be alert to all the signs and visit a doctor promptly.

2. Barrier protection

Use of spermicidal gel during sexual intercourse decrease the risk of cervical cancer. Use of condom decrease the risk of HPV infection to some extent but not to the fullest as the virus can easily be transmitted to the widely exposed sexual parts.

However, use of condoms can prevent some sexually transmitted infections including HIV and Chlamydia.

Abstinence also prevents HPV infection.

3. Vaccination

Two vaccines against HPV infection; Gardasil and Cervarix reduces the risk of cervical cancer for about 93% and 62% respectively. The vaccines are up to 92% and 100% efficient against HPV 16 and HPV 18 strains at least for 8 years period.

4. Nutritive care
