A Look at Kate Bosworth's Love Life as She Settles Her Divorce From Michael Polish

Best known for starring in the 2002 sports film Blue Crush, Kate Bosworth is a prominent actor. Bosworth's stellar resume includes credits in big films like Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, Superman Returns, and The U-Land. But the despite her continuing streak in the film business, Bosworth still remains a work in progress. The actress ventured into fashion in 2011 and has also successfully dabbled in activism. However, Bosworth's progressive career is not the reason she is a trending star on the internet.  

Born Catherine Anne Bosworth on January 2, 1983, in Los Angeles, California, her earliest known acting role is a role in the 1998 film The Horse Whisperer. Kate reached the peak of her career early on with the release of Blue Crush, which catapulted her to become a well-sought actress. Bosworth was her brightest self in front of the camera, but the actress reveals her life away from it was a mess. "I did not know how to handle all that," she explains. Kate's life is up for media scrutiny again as she and her ex-husband finalize their divorce.

Bosworth met screenwriter/director Michael Polish on the sets of his directorial, Big Sur, in 2011. The pair started dating soon, although as low-key as possible. The pair announced their engagement within a year of their dating bliss in 2012 and by 2013, the pair had already exchanged their vows. When Bosworth committed to becoming Polish's wife, the Superman Returns actress also vowed to accept the director's past. Before Kate, Polish was married to makeup artist Jo Strettell, with whom he shares a daughter named Jasper.  

"When I came into the picture, it was very important for me to have a relationship with Jo," the Blue Crush actress explained, adding, "from the get-go, we knew that in order to raise a healthy young woman in the world, it was important for all of us to lead with love and unity in the family." Bosworth never delved into motherhood herself, but the actress sure experienced it as a step-mom to Polish's daughter.   

Bosworth described her duty as a bonus mother as being "the hands-down the greatest unexpected gift of her life." The actress and her screenwriter husband seemingly grew apart over the years and decided to call it quits in 2021. The couple had been separated for a while when the Superman Returns actress revealed the news in an Instagram post in August 2021. Sharing a black and white picture of herself and Polish kissing, Bosworth wrote, "Our hearts are full, as we have never been so enamored and deeply grateful for one another as we do in this decision to separate."    

The post further read, "in the process of letting go, we have come to acknowledge that our love will never end. The connection does not simply disappear. The love deepens, the heart expands." Despite ardent fans' wishes for the estranged couple to mend what was broken, Bosworth went on with the legal process of their separation and filed for divorce in July 2022. But the pair's divorce wasn't much of a shock when compared with Bosworth's swift rebound relationship with a co-actor amid their separation.  

Almost a year after the divorce filing, where Kate put "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind their split, the former twosome's divorce is officially finalized. The settlement entails Bosworth keeping the ownership of her intellectual property, including her property in Pasadena, California, her Audi, and their horse, Rombi. The actress will not have to pay any spousal support amount to her ex-husband.

As Bosworth's personal life gains momentary traction, here's a look at her love life before she met Polish. To many's disappointment, the Superman Returns actress has a very short dating history. It pretty much starts and ends with two people. Kate started dating actor Orlando Bloom in 2002 and the pair were together until 2005. Bosworth revealed she and Bloom met before he rose to fame with The Lord of the Rings. The duo reportedly met on the set of a Gap commercial.   

Bloom, who is engaged to singer Katy Perry and shares a daughter with her, gushed about being in love with Bosworth. "I'm in love with love. It's heavenly when you're falling for someone and can't stop thinking about her," said the Return of the King actor. Bosworth maintained her single status for a long until meeting Polish. However, the U-Land actress has adopted a different approach this time. Kate started dating Justin Long almost immediately after her split from Michael.   

Bosworth and Long met while filming for House of Darkness in 2021. Although it isn't known if the new lovebird's romance brewed after her split from Polish and if it occurred while her marriage was intact, the hint did come before Bosworth's official announcement of the split. Sources claim Bosworth and Long are already engaged. "They are both thrilled, and their loved ones are incredibly happy for them. They make an amazing couple and they're so excited," an insider said.
