Ed Sheeran Says Wife Cherry was Diagnosed with "Tumor" While Pregnant
Ed Sheeran reveals his wife developed a tumor while she was pregnant: "I felt like I was drowning," Sheeran says!
2022 may not have been the best year for Ed Sheeran, who recently listed out a series of misfortunes that struck him last year. In an Instagram post, the Brit revealed that his wife, Cherry Seaborn, developed a tumor while she was pregnant with their second baby. The devastating news was followed by Sheeran explaining how the events changed his perception of music and also shaped his upcoming sixth studio album, Subtract.
"I had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be," Ed writes, adding, "then at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art." Ed adds, "within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumor, with no route to treatment until after the birth."
The Perfect crooner shares how the news of his wife's tumor and the death of his best friend, Jamal, a music producer, sent him into the pits of depression and anxiety. Sheeran faced a plagiarism lawsuit for his song, Shape of You, in mid-2022, which also added to his misery. Although the singer eventually won the suit and was awarded a whopping $1.1 million in legal costs, the Grammy winner writes, "I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air."
Sheeran shares that his upcoming album will be different in the sense that- "for the first time I'm not trying to craft an album people will like, I'm merely putting something out that's honest and true to where I am in my adult life." Ed ends the lengthy revelation with "this is last February's diary entry and my way of making sense of it. This is Subtract." The A-Team hitmaker's album is scheduled to release on May 5th.
Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn, the lucky woman who's been an inspiration behind many of Ed's hitmakers, including Perfect, met as fellow high school students, but only started dating after they reconnected in 2015. The couple secretly tied the knot in December 2018. The duo welcomed their daughter, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, in August 2020, and another daughter, Jupiter Seaborn Sheeran, in May 2022. "We are both so in love with her, and over the moon to be a family of 4," the Grammy winner wrote at the time.
