Jana Kramer Reflects on an Abusive Relationship

Jana Kramer gets candid about her abusive past: Jana has been married three times and is currently dating.

Singer and actress Jana Kramer reveal intimate details about her past. In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the One Tree Hill actress shares a picture from her teen years, which she says is a "very hard photo to look at," as it reminds her of a dark period in her life. A young Kramer, sporting a white tank top and a brown headband, can be seen sitting on her mom, Noah Kramer's lap.  

"This is a very hard photo for me to look at. One might look at this and see two smiling faces. A daughter with her mom. But what was under the smile is something that I still to this day have a hard time talking about," the 38-year-old writes in the emotional caption. Kramer withholds the alleged abuser's name in the caption, but there is a possibility that the actress is referring to her ex-husband Michael Gambino, who she accused of domestic violence in the past.  

Kramer further adds, "I don't remember the excuses that I told people when I flew home to escape my abuser about the cuts and scrapes on my shoulder and arms, or why my ribs were hurting. But when I look at this photo, that's all I see. Kramer, currently dating Ian Schinelli, was married to Gambino for a few months in 2004. The actress-turned-singer suffered severe domestic abuse at the hands of Gambino, who was then convicted on attempted murder charges in 2005.  

Further describing her triggered feelings, Kramer writes, "I see a broken girl who was weeks prior pinned to the ground while the man that "loved" me was strangling me saying that he was going kill me. I was so full of shame. I was made to feel like I had no one, and no one would believe me and that the reason I would be choked or hit was because I was bad."    

Kramer is dating navy veteran Ian Schinelli!  

The I Got the Boy crooner says she hopes her story encourages at least one fellow victim to come out and seek help. "Please don't wait until you lose your breath. Your life, Your heart, your soul is meant to be here and is meant to be loved and cherished," Jana wrote. "I am linking in my bio a place to find help. @safehorizon and so many places are there for you. Please talk to someone," the actress added.   

Following her brief nuptials with Gambino, Kramer married actor Johnathon Schaech, who she met on the sets of the slasher film Prom Night in 2010, but they separated a month later. She was briefly engaged to singer Brantley Gilbert in 2013. Kramer welcomed her firstborn, daughter Jolie, with her third husband, former football tight end Mike Caussin, who she married in May 2015.  

Kramer and Caussin welcomed a son, Jace, in November 2018. The pair had an on-off relationship from the start, with the former tight end cheating on Kramer, which he later revealed to be a result of his sex addiction. The pair called it quit in 2021. Following her split from Caussin, Jana briefly dated quarterback Jay Cutler and was also linked with Scott Eastwood and Gleb Savchenko. She confirmed her romance with navy veteran Ian Schinelli earlier this year.
