Selena Gomez Calls Francia Raisa Her

Selena Gomez says she'll "forever be in debt to" Francia Raisa, who donated a kidney to Gomez back in 2017! Complete story here!

In the latest episode of Apple TV+'s documentary series Dear ..., Gomez, 30, Selena Gomez recalls actress Francia Raisa's selfless offering that saved her life. "My best friend. Her name is Francia," Gomez says while reflecting on the time when Raisa got herself tested after finding out about Gomez's auto-immune disease. '"She said, 'no, I am absolutely getting tested,'" Gomez recalls, adding, "within three days, she went to [get tested], and she was a match. And it was one of those moments where I felt watched over. I know I was so so so lucky."

Gomez, 30, was diagnosed with lupus in 2012. The actress-turned-singer suffered life-threatening complications from her auto-immune disease in 2017. Lupus affects a person's "joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs." It is estimated that up to 60% of lupus patients develop kidney complications. Further expressing her gratitude for Francia, Gomez says, "I will never, ever, ever be more in debt to a person than Francia. The idea of someone not even second-guessing to be a donor was unbelievably overwhelming."

Gomez's grateful statements for the Grown-ish actress come amid the swirling rumor that the pair's friendship has been strained. Although Selena's heartfelt words certainly don't allude to a feud, the singer and Raisa, however, did undergo a squabble back in November, when Gomez called Taylor Swift her "only friend in the industry." "I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities. My only friend in the industry really is Taylor, so I remember feeling like I didn't belong," the former Disney star said.

Raisa, 34, known for her roles in Bring It On: All or Nothing, Grown-ish, and How I Met Your Father, responded with "interesting" under the post that highlighted Gomez's comments. Fans were quick to notice that the Grown-ish actress even unfollowed Gomez on Instagram. While the internet was divided about the so-called feud- with some siding with Selena and some calling her out for not mentioning the friend that saved her life, the Only Murder in the House actress posted a video about the speculation.

"Sorry I didn't mention every person I know," Gomez wrote in a Tik Tok video. Gomez and Francia have had, as fans would call it, a very bumpy relationship since Raisa's massive sacrifice for the singer in 2017, which made her the epitome of a best friend on the internet. The How I Met Your Father actress recently unfollowed the Rare beauty founder on Instagram after she was left unnamed in Selena's 2022 documentary My Mind and Me.
