Sia's film "Music" about a teen with autism caused huge controversy over her casting Maddie Ziegler as an Autistic Person. Following intense criticism of "Music," Sia revealed that she was suicidal and relapsed.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Sia Kate Isobelle Furler, better known by stage name Sia, revealed that her mental health was heavily affected after the outrage over her feature directorial debut," Music." Then she entered rehab after struggling with suicidal thoughts.
The "Cheap Thrill" singer thanked comedian Kathy Griffin for assisting her in recovering after convincing her to go out to a Hollywood restaurant. Kathy knew that paparazzi would capture them, and there would be healthy media buzz. The musician appreciated her saying," She[Griffin] saved my life."

"Unstoppable" hitmaker sparked heavy criticism over casting a nonverbal autistic teenage girl. Sia picked Chandelier's collaborator, non-autistic actress and dancer Maddie Ziegler to portray the demanding role of Music Gamble, which was not accepted whole-heartedly by the viewers.
Ahead of the film's release, Sia defended her choice for Ziegler's casting on her work. Sia told the tabloid that it was not pleasing to work with other young girls nonverbal on the spectrum.
The film critics and mainly the autism community panned the movie. As one fan raised her voice," I just feel like it comes off almost as mocking even though it's completely not the point, I don't know; it just gives me an uncomfortable vibe."

The songwriter with autism, Ashley Wool, told Sia's Music is doing active harm to everyone. Film actress Chloe Hayden also condemned Sia's casting of Maddie and said that film undermines autistic people's capabilities, and it completely belittles the entire point of inclusion.

Afterward, The 46-year-old, on February 3, 2021, tweeted, " I'm sorry," an apology aimed at the members of the autism community for depiction in the film. Sia removed all her Music related Twitter posts amidst the backlash over the movie scene.
