Anna Kournikova started her professional tennis career at the age of 14. Kournikova won the Fed Cup for Russia and a European Championship, making her the youngest players to do so. In 1995, she won the International Tennis Federation title twice and reached in the finals of the Women’s Tennis Association Tour at the Kremlin Cup.
In 1996, the 5 feet 8 inches tall made her grand slam debut in the US Open and the following year appeared in Australian and French Open. She then partnered with Swiss star, Martin Hingis and won the Australian Open doubles championship in 1999 and 2000.
Winning the title, Kournikova was ranked number 1 in doubles and also earned the title of the WTA Award for Doubles Team of the Year with her partner, Higgins in 1999 and 2000. In the same year, 2000, she also won the Golf Coast Open doubles and made it to eight semi-finals at the WTA Tour Championships in various places.
In the 2001 season, Kournikova injured her left foot and also suffered a severe back and spinal problems. Due to this, she had to take a break from her career, to undergo multiple surgeries. Kournikova soon made a comeback and won the Grand Slam Doubles at the Australian Open in 2002.
In March 2004, Kournikova stopped playing professionally, however, is playing only for charity purposes.
