Jackie Cruz is an American actress, who is equally famous as a singer and model. She came to limelight from the American comedy-drama web TV show “Orange is the New Black.” She has played few of the TV show including “The Shield,” “My Own Worst Enemy,” “Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami” along with Taylor Lautner, Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian. Moreover, she along with her team, girl group released Hollywood Gypsy in 2010.
Early Life
Jackie Cruz was born on 8th August 1986, Queens, New York City, United States. Later she moved to Los Angeles and then to the Santiago Dominican Republic with her mother.
During school days, she was part of the girl group, Krush Velvet and actively participated in a school competition. However, the group was not signed to any record label. She completed a degree from Hamilton music Academy. She can speak fluent English and Spanish.
Cruz started living alone when she was at the age of 16. The following year, she has had a car accident due to which she suffered a collapsed lung and was in a coma. She had to undergo brain surgery. Her song “Sweet Sixteen” was based on the same accident.
Career
Jackie started her career as an actress and made her acting debut from the American reality TV show Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami which premiered on E! TV series aired on 16th August 2009. She played a small role and could not capture the attention of the public.
Later in 2013, she started working as a waitress. She also worked a part-time job as a model in different modeling campaign.
At the end of the year, she got an opportunity to cast in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. She proved herself as one of the rising stars from the TV series where she portrayed the recurring character Marisol "Flaca" Gonzales for three seasons.
