Kristaps Porzingis, a Latvian professional basketball player who is currently playing for the team, New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He started his career with the team Baloncesto Sevilla as a youth squad but began to play professionally after joining the team, Cajasol Sevilla.
Early Life and Education
Born on 2nd August 1995 to Talis Porzingis and Indrid Porzinge in Liepaja, Latvia, Kristaps Porzingis is a Latvian and belongs to White ethnicity. He was raised by the supportive and friendly parents so is today one of the finest players.
His father was a semi-professionally basketball player before becoming a bus driver whereas his mother was on Latvia women’s youth national basketball team. As born in the player family, he got inspiration from his parents to become a professional.
Porzingis grew up along with his two brothers, Janis and Kristaps. His brother, Kristaps, died at the early age.
From the very early age of 6, Porzingis began to play basketball. After that, he was taken to the offseason training session when he was 12 by his player brother, Janis Porzingis. He then participated in the youth competition through the famous hometown club named, BK Liepajas Lauvas.
His fantastic playing skill led him to sign a contract with Baloncesto Sevilla, but after a short time, he suffered from anemia which he overcame at the short duration and began to play again. On 4th January 2012, he debuted for the youth squad.
Porzingis’s professional career started after signed by the team Cajasol Sevilla along with Aito Garcia Reneses, Juan Carlos Navarro, Ricky Rubio, Pau Gasol, Rudy Fernandez and much more. Moving on in September 2012, he got an opportunity to represent the team in the game against CB Murcia but appeared only for a minute.
On 20th February 2013, he made his first basket for the senior team in the rematch against Spartak. After his first basket, he became confident and made season highest point of 7 for the senior squad in ABC Championship. During the same year in November, he made his highest point of his career with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks against Laboral Kutxa, a EuroLeague Team.
He again broke his record while playing against Real Madrid and led his team to victory. Due to his great performance, was selected in the ACB All-Young Players Team of the season 2013-14.
In the 2014-15 season, he played in the Liga ACB against CB 1939 Canarias scoring 3 points in the game. In the same season, he made his first appearance in EuroCup against EWE Baskets and scored 2 points. The team again played against Pallacanestro Virtus Roma where he showcased his skills and as a result was named the winner of the EuroCup Rising Star of the season.
In 2014, he made himself eligible for the 2014 NBA draft but withdrew his name saying that he wanted to develop his skills until the 2015 draft. He selected in the 2015 NBA draft and was known as a lottery pick and a potential top 5 selective player. Due to his great sportsmanship, he was compared to the other players including Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, and others. After some time, he was selected by the New York Knicks in the 2015 NBA draft.
After being selected by the New York Knicks, he signed a contract with the team in 2015 and made debut for Knicks playing against Milwaukee Bucks and won the game 122-97. In the same year, he along with his team lost against San Antonio Spurs and made his first career double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. After almost 18 games he became the third most scoring player in the rookies and earned Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month.
Porzingis missed the first game in January 2016 after being diagnosed with an upper respiratory illness. During the year 2016, he won three monthly honors throughout the season and tied his highest score of his career with 29 points and 10 rebounds after playing against Chicago Bulls.
Furthermore, after all the games, he stood second in the NBA Rookie of the Year Award after Karl-Anthony Towns and also earned the NBA All-Rookie First Team honors. In the season 2016-17, while playing against Chicago Bulls, he made season’s highest score with 27 points winning the game 117-104.
As of 2017, in All-Star Weekend, Porzingis played in the Rising Stars Challenge and won the Taco Bell Skills Challenge. During 2017-18 season, he made the season open along with the team, Knicks but lost the match against Oklahoma City Thunder 105-84.
Regarding the personal life of Porzingis, he wrapped up most of the information related to his life so to be free from any types of rumors and controversies. He seems to be single in the present days as he is not spotted with any of the ladies.
This is quite surprising that a handsome man like him is still single or he is just keeping his love life hidden from the media.
But in February 2017, an Instagram model, Abigail Ratchford posted a picture wearing a red revealing one-piece dress in which Porzingis commented by posting a two bulging eyeball emoji. In response, the model replied with the same eyeball emoji with a kissing lips emoji. Well, there is indeed something going on between the two.
But as of now, they have not revealed any clues about such things so they might be just friends. Moreover, in his past, he was involved in a controversy with the glamorous model named, Ines Nikic after trying to play the fame card on Instagram with the model.
The Latvian professional player, Porzingis is earning much of the amount from his games and tournaments. He also made much from the other source like- in 2016 signed a shoe deal with Adidas for $3 million to $6 million annually. But later on, he shifted to Nike from Adidas for the rookie season.
Earning from all these sources, he has an estimated net worth of $4 million and earned $4503600 per season and is increasing in future.
