Shirley Gooding married twice to the same man singer Cubas Gooding Sr. The love birds met while performing for Jackie Wilson's Show 'Mr. Excitement' in 1964. The love blossomed between them, and the two soul singers walked down the aisle in 1966.

In 1967, the married couple gave birth to their first child, April Gooding. Unfortunately, the two got divorced in the year 1974. The financial problems might have been the cause of their separation.
