After his father had sustained a debilitating event, he had to take over the family farm, which meant he usually found himself in charge of men who were more than twice his age.

Tony Beets started working in construction and moved on to mining in 1984. Before Tony came to Dawson City in 1984, he worked on a farm, milking cows as well as working in pipeline construction. He runs an enormous gold mine near Dawson City called Paradise Hill.
He is balancing his mining operations, ensuring Paradise Hill and his dredge are running smoothly all while shipping his latest purchase, a second massive dredge, 100 miles along the Yukon River.
