Kathleen Matthews Is Wife of Chris Matthews

Kathleen Matthews and the former "Hardball with Chris Matthews" host Chris Matthews is married for nearly four decades. The pair tied the knot on June 21, 1980, and maintained their marriage without any news of cheating or scandals. 

Though there were no problems in the marriage of Kathleen and her husband, but individually, they faced many challenges. However, during every difficult time, the pair supported one another.

One of the recent examples of their undying support can be seen during Matthew's resignation. On March 2, 2020, Chris resigned after allegations of sexism by political journalist Laura Bassett.

Kathleen was present in the studio of the 74-year-old's last show and later held a send-off dinner for the team at a Capital Grille eatery in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The dinner was attended by Hardball producers, crew, and MSNBC president Phil Griffin.

Kathleen is yet to publicly state anything about the allegations made against her husband; however, the sources at the MSNBC reports that the former reporter was aware that her husband's behavior might not go well in the post-Metoo Movement. Thus, she was in talks with Phil Griffin, the MSNBC network chief, for giving Matthews less screen time.

Chris's departure came as a surprise to his viewers and many of the media personalities. While some supported his leaving the show whereas some thought that the punishment was way bigger than the crime. One of the prominent people who came in support of Matthews was The Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker.

Kathleen started her career as a reporter at WJLA-TV. Soon she was upgraded to anchor and hosted a nationally syndicated program named "Working Woman". She left the show in 2006 to pursue other opportunities. During her journalism career, she won nine local Emmys and an Edward R. Murrow Award.

In July 2006, the former anchor joined Marriott International as chief communications and public affairs officer. In this position, she was responsible for the company's external and internal communications, corporate social responsibility, and government affairs. Though the duties were huge, so were her paycheck. It is estimated she earned a six-figure salary in that position.

Kathleen was living her dream of traveling worldwide with her work at Marriott International; nevertheless, she reigned in March 2015  to pursue congress. In 2016, she filed nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives for Maryland's 8th congressional district. Despite Kathleen's work experience and her husband Chris' celebrity status, she was not able to win. She finished third behind Jamie Raskin, and businessman David Trone. 

Despite the loss, the 66-year-old did not give up on politics. On May 2017, she was elected Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party. Though the position was for four years, however, she remained in the chair for only one year. She was replaced by Maya Rockeymoore Cumming.
