Anthony Heald was born Philip Anthony Mair Heald on born August 25, 1944, in New Rochelle, New York, U.S to editor father. His father was a Buddhist and mother is Episcopalian. He has a sister who is Catholic.

Heald belongs to white-American ethnicity/race and holds an American nationality. His parents inspired him to get involved in acting. During his high school, he performed in several theaters plays.

Heald then made his appearances in the number of movies including, Outrageous Fortune, Searching for Bobby Fischer, The Ballad of Little Jo, A Time to Kill, Proof of Life, Red Dragon, Accepted and many more.
