Plese and Herjavec first met when the 55-year-old Croatian-Canadian businessman went for an eye appointment as Plese was his doctor. As per some sources, it was love at first sight for the pair.
The couple became lawfully wedded husband and wife in 1990 after exchanging vows at a wedding ceremony at a Croatian church in Mississauga, near Toronto.

"The divorce was so bad for Robert that he even contemplated suicide. I just wanted to end it. It’s been a terribly difficult year. We were great parents and a great team, but over time we drifted apart."

"Robert is a caring husband and a responsible person towards his family, but I cannot live with him anymore and the reasons behind our separation will not be disclosed among the public."
The former couple eventually got divorced in early 2016 after a long separation.
The Dancing With the Stars competitor admitted that he just wanted to commit suicide and end everything. He told People,
"I just wanted to end it. It's been a terribly difficult year but over time we drifted apart."

"Everyone has their kryptonite. For me, it was my kids. It took me to a place I never thought I would go."
He admitted that he was hollow and broken from the inside and it was his current wife and kids who saved his life.
