She started her career at age 18 as a makeup artist for MAC and eventually began working with celebrities, including Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys. Jeannie began auditioning for TV hosting gigs and booked jobs on Stir and The Daily Mix. Her first primetime hosting role was in 2005, on USA Network’s Character Fantasy, and in 2009, she took over as host on Style Network’s How Do I Look? Jeannie began hosting Miss Universe in 2011, and in 2013, she became a co-host of The Real.

Jeannie Mai started her career as a makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics at the age of 18. She has worked with many celebrities including Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kelly Osborne and Rosario Dawson. She also served as a celebrity makeup stylist for KCAL Los Angeles, MTV's Total Request Live, and Good Day Sacramento.
Mai started auditioning for local TV networks along with her self-written scripts which demonstrates her hosting talent in 2003. Then she co-hosts the Asian American magazine-style show, Stir. In 2005, she got her major breakthrough on the USA Network primetime show, Character Fantasy.
Mai hosted TLC popular show, Miss America Reality Check in 2008. The following year, she associates with Style Network's fashion makeover show How Do I Look?. She also hosts the Miss Universe pageant in 2011. She has hosted the shows like The Real, Steampunk'd, Entertainment Tonight', The Joker's Wild.
