Suicidal or Just Trying to Raise Awareness?
Pete Davidson’s well-being has been in question as of December 15, after he posted an unsettling statement on Instagram. He wrote he really doesn’t want to be on this earth anymore.
The Instagram post came quite soon after the comedian had used the social media platform to appreciate Kanye West for opening about his own mental health. Pete has since deleted his account.
Davidson wrote in a post earlier,
"I'm doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don't know how much longer I can last. all I've ever tried to do was help people. just remember I told you so."
Davidson’s troubling remarks surfaced after his ex-fiancée Ariana Grande commented on Kanye West’s recent tweets about Drake. Most of the tweets are currently deleted. In a since-deleted tweet on Thursday night, Grande wrote,
“Guys, I know there are grown men arguing online [right now], but Miley [Cyrus] and I [are] dropping our beautiful, new songs tonight, so if y’all could please just behave for like a few hours so the girls can shine that’d be so sick thank u.”
Replying to which Kanye West added a tweet on Sunday giving his view on mental health issues by sharing a screenshot of Grande's tweet and expressed that he considered it "slight commentary." He followed the now deleted tweet with another post that wrote,
"All of this foolishness weighed on my mental health so @ArianaGrande you know I got a love for you but until you're ready to really make sure everyone's ok don't use me or this moment to promote a song."
After the tweet of Kanye, Pete came to his defense on Instagram. He praised Kanye West for standing up for himself and expressed how difficult it is to own your mental health and talk about it. He also expressed how scary it is to talk about mental health issues. He also dissed his ex-fiancee, Ariana, indirectly.
Hours later, Grande wrote in an apologetic Tweet,
"With all due respect, I don't need to use anyone to promote anything. period. I was making a comment ab what men were doing at the time vs. women. it was a joke which I understand now was probably insensitive. I apologize if I was in any way triggering and hope u feel well today."
Pete Davidson has been an advocate of mental health in the past and recently has released a statement addressing bullying and borderline personality disorder. Ariana shared his statement on her Instagram story in solidarity with Davidson, and urged her fans to 'be gentler with others, even on the internet.' She also stated that she cares 'deeply about Pete and his health.'
