Early life and Education

Valentin Aleksandrovich "Val" Chmerkovskiy well known as Val Chmerkovskiy was born on 24th March 1986 Odessa, Ukrainian SSR, then the Soviet Union. The family moved to the United States in 1994.

His parents are Aleksandr "Sasha" Chmerkovskiy and Larisa Chmerkovskiy. His older brother, Maksim Chmerkovskiy is also a professional dancer who appears on Dancing with the Stars.

He was born in Ukraine but raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he attended Yeshiva in Borough Park. In 1996, Maksim and Sasha opened a youth-oriented dance studio in New Jersey, and Valentin was one of the students.

His father is Jewish, and mother is Christian, and he described himself as Jewish.

Career

Val Chmerkovskiy first appeared on season 2of Dancing with the Stars, on 10th February 2006

He again performed on season 4 results show, on 8th May 2007 in a dance off against his brother, Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

He appeared on the season 10 results show on 6th April 2010.

Chmerkovskiy also performed on the season 11 results show on 5th October 2010, performing music and dance duel with Mark Ballas.

In season 14, Chmerkovskiy partnered with Sherri Shepherd, comedian/talk show host. On 'Rock Week' (Week 4) of 'Dancing with the Stars,' they were the third couple to be eliminated, finishing in 10th place.

He danced as a professional partner in season 15 with Kelly Monaco, season 1 winner. They finished in third place in the season finale.

For season 16, Chmerkovskiy partnered with Zendaya, Disney Channel's Shake It Up star.

For season 17, he joined with Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, film and television actress eliminated in week 9, finishing in sixth place.

For season 18, he matched with Danica McKellar, actress and author and the pair were eliminated on Week 8 and ended in sixth place.

For season 19, Valentine was paired with Janel Parrish, Pretty Little Liars actress. They made it to the finals and finished in third place.

For season 20, he partnered with Rumer Willis, actress and singer. On 19th May 2015, Willis and Chmerkovskiy were crowned the winners marking Chmerkovskiy's first win.

For season 21, he joined with Tamar Braxton, R&B singer and reality television star.

For season 22, he partnered with Ginger Zee, a meteorologist. The team finished in the third place.

For season 23, he and Laurie Hernandez, an Olympic artistic gymnast participated, and the couple won the title.

For season 24, he partnered with Normani Kordei, a Harmony singer.

Personal Life

Val Chmerkovskiy is currently in a relationship with Jenna Johnson, a ballroom dancer, professional dancer and choreographer on Dancing with the Stars. The couple spent their holidays in Antibes and Cannes, France also posting many of pictures from their adventure on Instagram.

The rising star faced controversies after sharing a meme of a girl who has Down syndrome. The family is suing for defamation, emotional distress and invasion of privacy. The victim's family is seeking $6 million from Chmerkovskiy, $600,000 from the photographer as well as $6 million from CBS.

He is a Co-founder/Board of Directors member of the non-profit organization Dance Team USA.
